Police and Probation alert residents to door to door scam

06 Apr 2009

Police in South Ribble and Lancashire Probation Service are advising residents to think twice before buying from door to door sellers.

This follows an incident in Bamber Bridge last week (Wednesday 1st April) where a gentleman was visited by men claiming to be on a Probation Service approved doorstep selling scheme.

Mike Lock, District Manager from Lancashire Probation Trust said, “We do not involve offenders in any type of doorstep scheme. Our advice is not to buy from any person claiming to be part of this project. “

Crime Prevention Officer at Lancashire Police, Beverley Warburton added,”Anyone who is contact by someone claiming to be working with the Probation Service in this way should definitely not hand over any money and is advised to contact the police with as much detail as possible. The goods and services sold under these false pretences are usually either over priced or poor quality.”

If anyone would like any further information or advice, please contact Beverley Warburton on 01772-625593
