PAYBACK OFFENDERS CLEAR UP AFTER CLUB DAY
13 Jul 2010

Offenders serving Community Payback sentences joined forces with Fylde Borough Council staff and local volunteers to clean up 200 bags of litter following Lytham Club Day.
Lytham Green was left covered in rubbish following the annual event, but offenders helped pick up the litter in just two and a half hours – which equals one black bag cleared every 45 seconds.
Community Payback is a punishment handed out by the courts. It is demanding work carried out by offenders in the community as an alternative to a prison sentence.
Julie Barlow, Practice Manager for Lancashire Probation Trust said:
“The area was completely covered in all kinds of wrappers, cans and bottles following the Club Day, but thanks to the Community Payback team working together with council staff and volunteers from the Friends of the Estuary group, it was restored to a pristine condition.
“This is the kind of work that makes a real difference to local communities and the results are clear for everyone to see.”
